Every reader should be able to read these stories. This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible outline showing where you are and a link to skip straight to the content.
- Pages use real headings, lists and landmarks, so screen readers can move through them easily.
- Pictures that carry meaning have text descriptions. Decorative pictures are hidden from screen readers.
- Text and backgrounds are chosen for strong contrast, and reading text is never smaller than 16 pixels on a phone.
- Text can be enlarged to 200 percent without content being lost, and every page fits a phone screen without sideways scrolling.
- If your device asks for reduced motion, the scrolling animations and the moving ticker stop.
- The slideshow of upcoming books can be paused, and each slide can be reached directly.
- Forms have clear labels and explain what went wrong if something is missing.
Known limitations
Some book covers and artworks contain lettering that is part of the picture. Where that lettering matters, the same words appear as text nearby.
